Pico Rivera Sheriff’s Station reminds you to create an Emergency Preparedness plan for you and your family. Emergency preparedness involves planning, organizing, and taking proactive steps to minimize the impact of disasters and emergencies. Below are some key aspects of emergency preparedness:
Use emergency service apps such as “Watch Duty, Genasys, or Pulse Point” to stay informed regarding emergency and fire incidents near you.
Create an emergency plan to communicate with family members, friends, and neighbors. Include evacuation plans with multiple evacuation routes and destinations. Shelter in Place; for situations where staying home is safer than evacuating.
Build an Emergency Kit, including essentials to sustain you for at least 72 hours. Kits should include water, food, first aid kit, and tools and supplies. Add personal hygiene products and important documents, as well as phone chargers, power banks, and a radio.
Learn basic Emergency Skills such as CPR. Practice Fire Safety, including evacuation drills. Protect your home and assets by installing smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and a security monitoring system. Keep important documents in a waterproof/fireproof container.
Stay involved in local preparedness programs and help neighbors who may need additional assistance, such as the elderly and disabled.
Following an emergency, assess for injuries and damages, avoid hazardous areas, report safety issues to law enforcement, and stay in communication with authorities and loved ones.
