The Rio Hondo Nature Program is aimed at the Pico Rivera community’s local youth and their families. The program allows local youth the opportunity to explore the outdoors, gain leadership experience, and learn about career paths within nature at no expense. Participants will learn with a combination of guest speakers and hands-on experiences through the exploration of local outdoor excursions. Transportation and admission to excursions are paid for through the Outdoor Equity Grants Program.
Join an exciting adventure at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles! Adventurers will embark on a self-guided tour and wonder through the fascinating exhibits at your own pace. From ancient fossils to vibrant ecosystems, learn about the history of our planet, the diversity of life, and the importance of conservation of through informative exhibits and displays. Trip includes entry to the butterfly pavilion. Space is limited.

The coast of Southern California is teeming with sea life and expansive views of the Channel Islands and coastal cliff sides. The best way for explorers to experience the amazing Pacific Coast ecosystem is from the seat of a kayak floating along this deep and intricate waterscape. This paddle adventure is perfect for all levels of kayaking ranging from beginner to advanced. This excursion will be led by Recreation Equipment Inc.(REI) and feature a water safety course prior to Kayaking.
Eaton Canyon is perfect for the beginner hiker! This is a moderate hiking trail with several stream crossings. Adventurers will have an opportunity to enjoy spring's natural blooming flowers, wildlife and an impressive waterfall! Space is limited so register today!
Explorers come face-to-face with Catalina's abundant marine life aboard a semi-submersible submarine as you cruise five feet below the surface in a spacious, climate-controlled cabin. You'll see an incredible array of undersea creatures, including bright orange garibaldi, spotted calico bass, urchins, rockfish, and bat rays, to name a few. Then, explorers will enjoy a scenic land tour of the city! It's a real adventure! This seagoing adventure is for young sailors ages 5 to 17. (Youth 5 -17 MUST be accompanied by an adult)
The Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve is an excellent learning experience of wetland science and history firsthand! Throughout the guided hike explorers will learn about wetland ecology, watershed protection, biology, and history, with an emphasis on conservation and restoration. In addition, explorers will understand the wetland habitats' importance and how we are all connected.
The Chino Hills State Park is a natural area with a great variety of habitats and microclimates. A guided hike is the perfect excursion to observe diverse native wildlife and plant species. The Hiking trail is moderately leveled and perfect for the beginner hiker! Explorers will also experience specific programming at the Chino Hills state Discovery Center. Rain or shine trip. The Aquarium on Wheels is bringing a local tidepool habitat to you. Aquarium educators lead an exploration of the Pacific Ocean through interactive engagements. Explorers may touch sea creatures like a sticky sea anemone, a spiny sea star, or even discover the rough textured skin of a shark!
During this Enhanced Whale Watching Cruise, onboard educators will lead students through several free learning experiences, such as bird and mammal monitoring, an onboard scavenger hunt, and a plankton tow with tons of marine mammal artifacts. This seagoing adventure is for young sailors ages 5 to 17. (Youth 5 -17 MUST be accompanied by an adult)
