Pre-Approved ADU Plan

As a general guide, the property and ADU must meet all of the following minimum criteria:

• The lot is zoned to allow for residential use and contains an existing or proposed single-family residence or multi-family structure
• ADU Minimum Requirements
  • 10’ separation from habitable structures
  • 7’ separation from accessory structures
  • 4′ side and rear yard setbacks
  • Comply with the front-yard setback and lot coverage of the underlying zone

Review the Pre-Approved ADU Submittal Checklist for a list of documents that are required at time of plan submittal.

Planning staff will review your application within 2 – 5 business days of submittal. If your application is deemed complete, then staff will provide plan check review fees. If your application is deemed incomplete, then you will be notified of missing information.

Your plans will be routed for Plan Check review once plan check review fees are paid. You will be notified via email once plans are approved or if corrections are required. Corrections require resubmittal of a complete set of plans for a second round of Plan Check. This process will repeat until plans are approved.

Once the plan check process is complete and plans are approved, you will be notified via email with instructions on the next steps for obtaining construction permits. Staff will provide approved plans and an inspection card once all outstanding items have been completed.

• Payment of permit fees
• Outside agency approvals
