Attention Residents,
Pico Rivera City Hall has been receiving several calls regarding the Whittier Narrows Dam. As many of you know, there is currently an ongoing project to improve upon the Dam’s main infrastructure to handle a major storm. The project overall is expected to be completed in 2031.
In the meantime, there is no imminent danger to the Whittier Narrows Dam infrastructure that would compromise the integrity of the structure or cause it to fail during these storms. According to US Army Corps of Engineers Officials, the Whittier Narrows Dam is working as intended, with no issues or concerns forecasted. The reservoir is below storage capacity, and all gates are working as intended. As of 2022, the spillway gates have been improved and are currently working as designed. Corps officials, per operational plans, are onsite monitoring the conditions at all times.
We are working in close coordination with the US Army Corps of Engineers to ensure that our citizens receive the most current information. Should there be any further updates or notifications, we will advise our residents as soon as possible.
